Vintage Delicafe

Located along Bussorah Street sits Vintage Delicafe, a quaint, cosy and homely halal eatery serving Western and Italian cuisine. We have heard so much rave about it we had to check it out for ourselves.

Despite being a double storey cafe, it is a pretty small space with limited seating (both indoor and outdoor seating available). We had to wait quite some time before getting assigned a table but it was understandable since it was a Friday night.

For drinks, we highly recommend getting a jug ($5), which can be shared among 3 to 4 pax, instead of individual glasses ($2) to save on cost.

Calamari Rings ($8.00)

For our starter, we got calamari rings. Only two words to describe it; crispy and delicious. Lets be honest, you can never go wrong with calamari rings. We'd rate this a satisfying 4/5.

Beef Steak ($25.90)

A generous portion was served however, the meat was a little too tough for our liking and was a little dry but still palatable. We'd prefer it cooked to medium or medium rare for a juicier and more tender steak. It's only redeeming factor is the creamy mashed potatoes. We'd rate this a 3/5.

Grilled Lamb ($23.90)

As compared to the beef steak, the grilled lamb was much more satisfying. Having been cooked to medium, the meat was tender. We really enjoyed this dish and would give it a 4/5.

Seafood Aglio Olio ($15.90)

Apart from the choice of pasta, we also had a choice of the desired level of spiciness. We went for level 2. It definitely triggers the taste buds but was still pretty mild in our opinion. It would be great if they could introduce another level up for those who crave that extra kick. Apart from the muscles, everything else was fresh. We'd rate this dish a 3.5/5.

Grilled Dory ($14.90)
This dish left us sitting on the fence. The fillet was well marinated and flavourful but it was a shame because it wasn't cooked evenly. Also, the consistency of the cream of mushroom herb sauce was pretty thick and did get a little over-cloying after awhile. The creamy mashed potato served along side the dish was a winner. We'd rate this dish a 3/5.

The food here is not bad but it isn't great but if you're looking for a convenient eatery serving affordable dishes with pretty generous portions you might want to give Vintage Delicafe a shot. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming but we were let down by their lack of efficiency. We waited for quite some time before getting our orders taken and had to wait even longer for our food to be served. The ambiance was substandard. The lighting was too dim and it was a little too noisy.
