If you're in Kuala Lumpur and you're waffling over where to wander for darn good freshly made waffles that is guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds then we definitely urge you to try Wafflemeister.
Located on the third floor of the famous Suria KLCC Mall located underneath the Petronas Towers is the first South East Asian branch of the UK-based waffle chain, Wafflemeister. They've only been opened for less than a year but business seems to be going well which is no surprise because their flagship product, the handmade waffles, they serve are top notch. The secret behind their delicious waffles is the dough made using a Belgian family recipe dating back to the 1950s. The smell of the glazed waffles wafting up your nose is guaranteed to make you want to stop by to grab some.
Their retro-themed decor is cosy, unique and definitely pulls you into a different time.

The full product range includes Liege waffles (RM11-19), gelato (RM7/scoop), coffee (RM6-14) and milkshakes (RM16). Ranging from natural gelato, Belgian chocolate fudge, freshly whipped cream, fresh fruits and many more, the toppings offered are wide and of quality. To bring out its rich flavour, their authentic Italian style gelato is made with natural ingredients.
We were really spoilt for choices so we decided to go for two of the three best sellers recommended by the staff. We had the Strawberry Heaven (original Liège waffle with freshly whipped cream, a drizzle of Belgian chocolate fudge and strawberries) and Go Bananas (original Liège waffle with whipped cream, banana slices, a drizzle of Belgian chocolate fudge and mixed nuts) with a scoop of Stracciatella and Panna Cookies gelato respectively. You can choose to have them just as they are or add on gelato like we did at RM7 per scoop. Also you have a choice of the finest Belgium dark, milk or white chocolate to be drizzled over your waffles. They offer both take-away and seating options but we decided to sit and enjoy our waffles over some chit chat.

Strawberry Heaven (RM24)
The waffle was done just how we like it to be; crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It was also served warm so we knew it was freshly made. The waffle is already sweet by itself and with a scoop of Stracciatella gelato and milk chocolate drizzle you'd think its sweetness would be overwhelming but no, the generous amount of whipped cream balances it out with its almost tasteless with a light milky flavour to it. The slightly sour strawberries also helps. Stracciatella gelato is similar to the American chocolate chip ice cream. The only difference is instead of chunks of chocolate, Stracciatella has fine chocolate shavings throughout which results in a very smooth texture with the slightest crunch in every bite. Also, it has a very rich vanilla flavour and isn't overly sweet. We were very pleased with it and would rate it a 4.5/5
Go Bananas (RM24)
Go Bananas is very similar to Strawberry Heaven except for the choice of fruit topping and gelato flavour. Like the Strawberry Heaven, the whipped cream and bananas balances out the sweetness from the combination of the already sweet waffle and gelato. The Panna Cookies gelato tasted like regular cookies and cream ice cream, which is vanilla based with chunks of cookies (usually oreos) throughout, nothing special. We regretted going for something so familiar instead of venturing gelato flavours we've never had before but nonetheless, we still enjoyed what we had. We would rate Go Bananas a satisfying 4.5/5
Overall, we were very satisfied with their splendid food and swift service. Let's not delude ourselves, waffles are always good but the ones here are exceptional. It is a little punishingly priced but this indulgence is definitely worth the splurge and the calories. We would definitely go back for more the next time we're in KL.
