Anjung Senibong Seafood Restaurant Johor Bahru

Anjung Senibong Seafood Village is located at Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru. The area is quite secluded. There are about six to seven seafood restaurants to choose from, each with a wide selection of fresh seafood ranging from a wide variety of fishes to stingrays, squids, lobsters and crabs laid out for customers to personally hand pick to be prepared for them. Customers also get to choose their desired flavour for the seafood to be cooked in. The prices of the dishes are charged based on the weight of the seafood selected. The restaurants have both an indoor and an outdoor dining area. For the fans of the sea breeze, the calming sound of the ocean and breathtaking sunsets, the outdoor dining area along the Straits of Johor is perfect for you.

Standard set meals are available for packs of 2 to 10. Additional charges applies for customers who request to replace certain dishes in the set meals. We went in a group of 5 so we decided to set meal D for 6 pax at RM160 and added on chilli crabs to satisfy our craving.

CHILLI CRAB

Chilli crab is one of Singapore's most iconic dishes. Unlike Singapore's style of serving the crabs submerged in the sweet-spicy gravy, we had the dry version where the crabs were stir fried in savoury sambal. It was a great combination of sweet and spicy from the fresh crab meat and sambal respectively.

They could however be more generous with the amount of sambal.
Also, the crabs were priced at RM70 per kilogram which was a little pricey but nonetheless, we would rate this delectable dish a 4.5/5

SEAFOOD TOM YAM SOUP

We have been to Bangkok several times and have tried the authentic Thai tom yam and were quite impressed at how similar this was to that. It had a good balance of both spicy and sour with a generous amount of seafood; consisting of squid, prawn, oyster mushroom and fish. Everything except the fish was cooked to perfection. We felt that the fish was a little overcooked giving it a tough and rubbery texture. Their dish presentation could also be improved. Despite the slight imperfections, we were still satisfied with this dish giving it a rating of 4/5

IKAN TIGA RASA

We were very pleased with the ikan tiga rasa (battered fish with a triple flavoured sauce combination of sweet, sour and spicy) Despite the fish being covered with sauce, it didn't get soggy and lose it's crunch. The crunchy texture of the skin adds an interesting dimension to the overall taste of the fish. The fish was cooked to perfection. The flesh was sweet and didn't have any traces of the "fishy" smell. Keeping in mind that we ordered a set meal for 6, we felt that the serving size wasn't sufficient. Apart from that, this dish was impeccable and is definitely a must try. We would rate this a 4.5/5

SOTONG GORENG TEPUNG

Don't get fooled by the simplicity of this dish because this is by far the most scrumptious dish we've had today. The batter had a perfect balance of flavours and also the perfect crunch. We like how the calamari rings were springy but not too chewy and also not too oily. It was accompanied with chilli sauce which we felt wasn't necessary because the batter itself was very flavourful. We would rate this a 4.8/5

BUTTER PRAWN

The buttered prawns were huge and crispy with great texture, and the serving size was relatively reasonable however, the prawns were bland and almost tasteless, and were way too oily. Definitely a wrong choice of flavour. We would probably like it better if they were to be fried in the same batter as the calamari rings. We would rate this a disappointing 1.5/5

LALA SAMBAL

The lala was stir fried in sambal somewhat similar to the the chilli crabs' but with a more subtle taste. We found that the lala had a slight "fishy" taste which even with the sambal couldn't be masked, so it was a little unpleasant and some of the shells were empty so portion wise was quite disappointing. We would rate this a 3/5

KAILAN IKAN MASIN

We didn't particularly like this dish nor did we hate it. It didn't quite bring justice to its name. It was somewhat salty but it didn't quite taste like salted fish and the portion was quite small so we were a little discontented. We would rate it a 3/5

The set meal also came with a choice of drinks between lychee and lime juice. We went for the lime juice and it definitely earned our praises. It was pulpy and neither too sweet nor too sour. It was very refreshing and thirst quenching.

All in all, majority of the food served was delectable, the service was good and the ambience was great.
