Located in the heart of Arab Street, La Marelle is a French fantasy themed cafe and boutique by a French design company. La Marelle collaborates with over 40 international artists for their quirky, unique and beautiful inventory featuring bags, iPhone cases, necklaces and stationery. Only two collections or 500 pieces are launched annually and each artwork is pain-stakingly hand-drawn before they are printed onto the products for sale. Their boutique is what sets them apart from other cafes. Its' colourful, quirky and whimsical interior is very intriguing and is bound to put you in a good mood. We were very taken by their beautiful decor particularly the murals on the walls and ceiling. Singapore is the first to have its' very own La Marelle cafe and it is definitely a great addition to the local scene. If you are a fan of things cute and artsy then La Marelle is the place for you.

Iced Cappuccino ($5.50++)
We felt that it tasted quite flat and was a little too diluted for our liking. Also, it's supposedly an iced cappuccino but wasn't served with ice and it turned warm by the time our food arrived. We've had better quality coffee at a similar or even lower price. We would rate this a 2.5/5
Amelie Mocktail ($6.50++)
The base of this mocktail is just regular lemonade but the freshly diced orange and kiwi, and selasih seeds adds an interesting twist to the flavour. It was a little too sour at first but tasted better after awhile especially between mouths of food. It'd be great if they could remove the orange seeds. Apart from that, it was pleasant and thirst quenching and we would rate this a 4/5
Iced Chocolate ($5.50++)
The drink was too concentrated and ice cubes were absent. It was almost warm when served. It really made us question their understanding of iced drinks. We would rate this a 2/5
All croissants are stuffed with scrambled egg and salad, and served with nachos and salsa on the side. There are 4 types to choose from; Mexico, Italian, French and German. What tells them apart is the choice of sausages and sauce.
Italian Stuffed Croissant ($12.90++)
The croissant itself was very fluffy and buttery which was really nice. The Italian chicken sausage and mustard-mayo sauce was flavourful however, comparing it to the size of the croissant, we felt that just one sausage wasn't sufficient. It'd be great if they could serve it with two sausages like the French Stuffed Croissant. The scrambled egg was very bland. They could have seasoned it with a little salt or pepper to add to the flavour. The nachos was accompanied by salsa sauce which tasted somewhat similar to the chilli sauce served with chicken rice and we felt that it didn't quite complement the nachos. We felt that the stuffed croissant was pretty bland as a whole but we would give plus points for presentation. We would rate this a 3/5
French Stuffed Croissant ($12.90++)
This is quite similar to the Italian stuffed croissant except that it was served with chicken saucisse, mushrooms and bechamel sauce. Similar to the Italian, we felt that it was quite bland as a whole and the sauce could be replaced with cheese or something that complemented the nachos better. We would rate this a 3/5
Mushroom Ravioli ($15.90++)
The ravioli was served in mushroom cream sauce and sprinkled with beef bacon slices. The ravioli was well cooked and had a great texture but the beef bacon slices were unevenly cooked leaving a tad bit slightly raw which was unpleasant. We thought it tasted quite lovely at first bite but it started to get extremely salty. It wasn't the kind of salty that goes as you swallow your food but the kind that lingers in the mouth until after a few gulps of water. We tried masking the taste with the nachos served with the stuffed croissants but to no avail. We gave up eventually. This is definitely neither worth the money nor the calories. Also, they could make a slight improvement presentation wise. We'd rate this a disappointing 1.5/5
We were confused at how and why there is a hype going on about how great the food served at La Marelle is especially after our not very satisfying dinner. Maybe these desserts are responsible for all the hype. We didn't try them but just look at them, don't they make your mouth water? There is a wide range of desserts available from red velvet cakes to oreo cheesecakes and assorted macarons.
Overall, the food was not very pleasing. We might consider going back to try their desserts but definitely not going back for a second round of their main dishes. We were also quite disappointed with the service rendered. Their staff were quite friendly but were not very efficient. Also, there was a slight mix up in our orders. The cafe is well decorated and maintained but we felt that it was a little crammed and noisy. Free wifi and powerpoint plugs are available for those who like to work on-the-go.
